Johnny Cake (Sweet Cornbread)

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup flour
1 cup yellow corn meal
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and milk. Stir in dry ingredients.
Bake at 350* for 25 minutes or until a sharp knife inserted in center comes out clean.
